As a woman and a single mother who has raised two daughters, I am appalled and outraged that my daughters have fewer rights than I did at their ages. We’re fortunate to live in Colorado, a state whose progressive leadership and voters have affirmed access to safe and legal abortion and protected the right to express gender identity and access comprehensive sexual health care services. However, we’re moving backwards as a country and should be alarmed and moved to action. I believe all elected leaders – at all levels of government – have important roles to play to affirm and strengthen these values around individual rights and reproductive justice and reflect those values in policy and action.
